Small but mighty

 The Honda CRF300

Having spent some considerable time riding this bike I now know why it’s a Round The World bike, with YouTube starts like itchy boots choosing the CRF over the Himalayan she previously used, and the go to bike for people wanting an adventure whether that’s on your local lanes or to pack up and disappear on the Trans Euro Trail.

The bike is such an easy bike to ride, fantastic feather light clutch, standing up on the pegs it feels like a big mountain bike, agile and forgiving.

People need to be aware this is a price point bike which the 2023 model coming in at £5749 but well priced in the secondhand market, with this being a cheaper bike it has its inadequacies the main one being the lolloping suspension which could give you a dose of seasickness the way the bike has a tendency to bounce down the road, but this is easily remedied by upgraded rear shock from rally raid (best one on the market) and some new inserts in the forks.

27bhp, 26nm of torque is enough to plod up the steepest of hills with out getting in to to much trouble, 6 speed box which is fantastic on those long road sections which are surprisingly enjoyable using every bit of that 27hp.

The bike is a dream to ride

now for some not so good bits the CRF is a heavy old lump which you will find out after dropping it a couple of times breaking the scales at about 150kg, and the foot pegs, i mean come on Honda why weld them to the frame? if you drop this bike with any gusto you are going to put the foot peg through the frame.

With a couple of slight tweaks this is one of the best all round bikes on the market (wish Honda would do another Big Red) it will take you RTW or to the shops for some milk, and its a very comfortable all weather work hack

I would highly recommend this bike to anyone wanting to get a taste of adventure and enjoy the green lanes. well done Honda for making a little belter of a bike
