DGR Newcastle 2023

The Reason I Ride

if you have never heard of the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride here's a bit of the blarb from there website. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage styled motorcycle riders from all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives. we are raising money for a good cause and this year was no different, I first heard through the Movember foundation and doing various years of raising money with a horrendous tache doing different challenges I did my first ride in 2020, this year started with an amazing night hosted by triumph Newcastle at the tyne bank brewery

The Ride out

the line up of the bikes this year was amazing, everything from pre war beauties to modern monsters, everyone congregating about the forecourt at triumph on Scotswood road

once the ride started we were heading east through the Center of Newcastle heading towards the coast via the amazing Beehive Road which is infamous between the older riders back in the day.

500 ish riders rolling 3 deep down the road was some sight, after meeting up at the links at Whitley bay it was time to roll down to the fish quay following the Tyne all the way back to Newcastle to the Tyne bank for the after party.

the event this year was a huge step up to past events with the induction of the Saturday night, the route is pretty much unchanged in the past 3/4 years, I really hope they give it a refresh just to make it a bit different for next year. but its well organised event fun and full of lovely like minded riders all working towards raising awareness and money for mens mental health.  Huge thank you to all the folks who were involved in this. Roll on 2024
